Through its services to the Indian diamond industry, HDCPL fulfills a social mandate of the Government of India, i.e. to cater to the small and medium enterprises engaged in this business, aimed at ensuring that the large scale employment provided by these units is sustained. The Company is actively pursuing a policy to bring all registered SME units onto its customer rolls.
In addition to Mumbai, (Maharashtra), HDCPL also conducts its operations from its trading office at Surat (Gujarat), also called “the diamond city of the world”. This office caters primarily to a host of small and medium diamond manufacturing units based across Gujarat.
HDCPL procures rough diamonds from the established companies like ALROSA in Russia, Okavango Diamond Company Pty Ltd in Botswana and other prominent diamond hubs in Antwerp; the precondition for the procurement being that the source/s from which the procurement is being made is Kimberley Process Compliant and that a due diligence is conducted in respect of the source of these goods. Once the goods are procured, the rough diamonds are sorted and processed by HDCPL in accordance with the service level requirements of its manufacturer-exporter clientele.
Due to its unique position in the trade, both in India and abroad, HDCPL has an addressal system through which it provides regular feedback and information on all aspects of the Gems and Jewellery sector to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
